DofE - Information for Pupils and Parents
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is all about going the extra mile – gaining new skills, pushing yourself physically, helping others and exploring new activities. At the same time, you’ll gather friendships, experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.
You can choose the activities that motivate you (many are already available at School as extra-curricular options) and go on your own personal journey. We know from other participants that the DofE helps you stand out from the crowd when you apply for university and jobs.
The Awards
As a DofE Directly Licensed Centre (DLC) we currently offer two award levels:
- Bronze - in Year 9
- Silver - in Year 10
Activities
Each Award requires the successful completion of four section activities, requiring you to give a regular commitment averaging a minimum of at least an hour a week during non-curriculum time for the required timescale.
- Find out more about the different sections (Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition and Residential (at Gold Award level only) here
You take responsibility for sourcing and arranging your Volunteering, Physical, Skill, (Residential at Gold) section activities/opportunities with a suitable provider, who will take responsibility for activity supervision and act as an assessor. They must be willing to provide a brief report confirming that you have taken part in the activity, averaging at least one hour a week (or two hours a fortnight), for the entire timescale - and have made up for any missed time by extending the timescale.

eDofE
You will be allocated an individual eDofE account which can be accessed via smart phone, tablet, laptop or PC. You are required to enter personal details, along with submitting activity ideas for approval by the DofE Manger.
Only once the activity has been approved should your participation commence as outlined above. You should evidence attendance with activity logs and completion with an assessor’s report, which you upload onto your eDofE account and submit for approval by the DofE Manager. Once they approve the final section activity as completed, the account is automatically forwarded for verification.
Any queries during this process, either from the DofE Manager or DofE Verifier, will see participants alerted through a message to their eDofE account.

LECA secures £5000 of Diamond funding from the Duke of Edinburgh Award
Littleport and East Cambs Academy is delighted to announce that we have received a grant from The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE). Diamond fund for the Launch of The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at LECA – enabling us to provide the opportunity for any of our students to take part in the DofE.
Thanks to this fantastic offer we will be able to purchase and provide each student with the expedition equipment that allows the DofE participants to fully take part and enjoy this section of the Award. LECA will purchase a range of expedition equipment including tents, rucksacks, first aid kits, compasses and Trangia portable cooking stoves. The groups will be using this equipment on their two day practice expedition in May 2020 and two day assessed expedition in June 2020.
Diamond funding will reduce the contribution each student is required to pay in order to take part in this Award. All students taking part will benefit from this funding as taking part in the DofE provides students with an opportunity to develop their soft skills and attributes for life and the workplace.
We look forward to seeing the positive impact that this Award will have on our student’s lives. Currently we have 27 year 9 students signed up to the Bronze Award which begins in September and if there are students who are keen to get involved then there are a few places still remaining. If interested, they need to complete the DofE permission form and speak to Mrs Emmess.
