LECA secures £5000 of Diamond funding from the Duke of Edinburgh Award
Littleport and East Cambs Academy is delighted to announce that we have received a grant from The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE). Diamond fund for the Launch of The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at LECA – enabling us to provide the opportunity for any of our students to take part in the DofE.
Thanks to this fantastic offer we will be able to purchase and provide each student with the expedition equipment that allows the DofE participants to fully take part and enjoy this section of the Award. LECA will purchase a range of expedition equipment including tents, rucksacks, first aid kits, compasses and Trangia portable cooking stoves. The groups will be using this equipment on their two day practice expedition in May 2020 and two day assessed expedition in June 2020.
Diamond funding will reduce the contribution each student is required to pay in order to take part in this Award. All students taking part will benefit from this funding as taking part in the DofE provides students with an opportunity to develop their soft skills and attributes for life and the workplace.
We look forward to seeing the positive impact that this Award will have on our student’s lives. Currently we have 27 year 9 students signed up to the Bronze Award which begins in September and if there are students who are keen to get involved then there are a few places still remaining. If interested, they need to complete the DofE permission form and speak to Mrs Emmess.
