Every student at LECA has a flightpath. Each student is placed on their own flightpath based on their starting point: their combined English and Maths SAT results and results of baseline tests we set. The flightpath is mapped against the new GCSE 1-9 grades with grade 5 being considered ‘a good C’ grade. This is what colleges and employers will look for when considering applications.
There are three starting points for our students:
1) For those students who achieved 90-99 in the SATS their starting point would be -1 and their target grade in all subjects would be 1. In Year 8 it would be 2 and for each year following we would set a further target of one more grade. This means, as a minimum, all of these students would achieve level 5 in their subjects – a good C.
2) For those in the next band, 100-109, their starting point would be 1 and their end of year target would be 2. The following year it would be 3 and so on.
3) For those in the next band, 110+, their starting point would be 2 and their target would be 3. The following year it would be 4 and so on to reach the minimum target grade of 7 (an old A grade).
Using GO 4 Schools, you will be able to view your child’s progress online and access the following information at any time:
Real-time attainment information – marks and target grades for all subjects throughout the year. Timetable – Your child’s daily and weekly timetable.
Attendance – Shown from the start of the academic year. Reports – Full reports with grades and supporting teacher comments published annually.
Progress Check – issued annually showing your child’s current progress by grade only.
Behaviour - A full log of your child’s behaviour at school including achievements, behaviour concerns, meetings with staff and detentions issued.
Your child’s page is constantly updated, providing you with the latest information.
Some points to note:
1) We never cap student progress. If students exceed their targets, we will set higher ones.
2)Because we are grading against rigorous GCSE levels from Day 1, almost all students will be below or well below target for at least a term in most subjects. Do not be alarmed by this – the students are not expected to be at GCSE level when they arrive. Our job is to get them there.
